What I Wore | Friendsgiving

Thanksgiving Outfit

WhatIWore: Having a baby really makes you count your blessings and this year, I am especially grateful for our circle of friends here in Bloomington. We had so many meals delivered, errands run and special visits at the hospital and at home. It really blew me away how generous people could be (and also a big lesson in slowing down and letting other people help you!) So last weekend I was really excited to get together with our crew for Friendsgiving. The food was awesome but the company was the best part!

When: November 15, 2014

What:
Shades: Target
Sweater: Talbots, gift
Skirt: Target
Tights: We Love Colors
Boots: Nine West
On Felix: Homemade hat, Target hoodie, consigned pants

Where: Friendsgiving Dinner

A moment of honesty - taking outfit photos is 100x more cumbersome with a little one in tow. We have to bundle up the baby and either get him into the Ergo or his carseat, get him calmed down and then rapid fire to get enough shots to edit. Luckily we had our routine down to a few minutes before Felix was born, so once we’re set up, we can usually bang things out quickly. But sometimes… Felix is just not having it and doesn’t want to be in his carseat at papa’s feet… like in these photos. I was like Forget It! Let me just hold him! and I actually like the pics with him in them better than when I’m solo.

As for the outfit, I’m basically living in three different chunky turtleneck sweaters this fall. They’re so easy to layer over a v-neck for easy nursing access. Instead of my normal black or denim skinny jeans, I decided to dress it up a bit with a short flared skirt (also, hello stretchy knit, a Thanksgiving must!). The silhouette is kind of new for me. It’s roomy and not necessarily the most slimming look, but whatever, let’s be real. I just had a baby and looking super thin isn’t that important to me anymore. I did, however, feel really good in this outfit!

One Sweater | Four Ways

One Sweater, Four Ways, Cream Turtleneck Sweater

WhatIWore: Besides my trusty pair of jeans, a cream turtleneck sweater has been my number one go to this fall (this is the outfit I wear on repeat these days). Above - four of my favorite other ways to wear this versatile cold weather piece.

WhatIWore: Yesterday Adam and I had a chance to go out on a little lunch date while Grandma spent time with Felix at home. I really look forward to having a little time alone with my husband (and eating out!) so I usually take some time to get ready before hand. I’m starting to get the hang of how to balance watching after a little one and managing myself at the same time. Truth be told, I’m usually in ratty sweats with messy hair, but when I’m not, snap snap! Outfit photo time!

When: November 20, 2014

What:
Hat: Self Made (similar style and here)
Scarf: Self Made (no pattern reference, sorry! shop similar here)
Dress: Vintage, Altered
Coat: J.Crew (30% off with code SHOPNOW)
TIghts: We Love Colors
Bag: Coach
Booties: Rag + Bone

Where: Lunch date with Adam

Why: I’m getting more and more energy to shoot what I’m wearing these days… the trouble is, my closet is so limited! I really don’t have that many pieces that fit my giant chest and my bottom selection is restricted to a couple pairs of jeans or tights. Luckily, my coats hats and scarves all fit, so I’ll be using them as much as possible to change things up.

In these pics I’m wearing a couple more self made items - another one of the hats in my little collection plus a scarf I crocheted years ago.  I’m hoping to get some knitting done this winter too - I want to make Felix a little bear hat (why do kids look so cute dressed like baby animals?) and maybe another chunky hat for myself?
