What I Wore | Purple Vintage
/
WhatIWore: Gooooood morning! Just slowly getting back into the swing of things in our world after a long beautiful weekend at the lake. Lots of photos to come this week, including a morning spent inside a couple of bee hives, tracking down the queen and generally checking out the health of the group.
I’m really enjoying being able to wear more of my older pieces, including a lot of vintage dresses that were set aside during last summer’s pregnancy. I’ve worn this dress a lot in the past and at this point, I don’t do much to try and switch it up or make it different. It’s fine on it’s own!

Family Time | A Day on the Lake
/As we gear up for the Fourth of July weekend, I can’t help but think back to my childhood and the many summer days and nights we spent at my grandparent’s lake cottage. We didn’t go on a lot of family vacations, but we did seem to carve out at least a week long trip each July or August. When I think of the lake I think of blueberry pancake breakfasts, day lillies, rope swings, laps and laps around the lake riding the tube, naps in the hammock, cookouts at night, one last boat ride at dusk and then s’mores by the neighbor’s firepit before bed.
One of my other favorite memories is running and jumping off the dock where my dad would be waiting with a blue foam raft, increasing the distance with each subsequent jump. I loved swimming in the lake with my brother and sister and cousins, loved tubing, loved boat rides… and still love them all today! This weekend we’ll drive north for our annual visit to the lake, now with my aunt and uncle on the same lot. I’m excited to do all of those things again, this time with Felix (minus the tubing, he’s gonna have to watch from the shore!) Maybe I will FINALLY get up on skis (yes, I’ve tried almost every summer, no, no skiing success yet).
So, a couple of weekends ago, Adam and I just couldn’t wait and rented a boat on our local lake… it was Felix’s first time on the water! He took the wheel (literally!) and really liked being on board. He also did the cutest thing in the lake. He’d hold on VERY TIGHTLY to his life jacket, lean back, close his eyes and cross his ankles and just float. The leg cross has been something I’ve noticed a lot lately and something it felt like he did a lot in utero. It was super cute.
What is your family doing for the Holiday Weekend? Whatever you do, hope it’s fun and safe and relaxing! I’ll see you on Monday (or Tuesday… depending on how wiped out I am!) Happy Independence Day!
What I Wore | Mom Jeans
/
WhatIWore: Many years ago, someone commented on this blog that I looked like a soccer mom, meant to be an insult. At the time, I was in my mid twenties and was like shrug, if I look this good by the time I have kids that are old enough to play soccer, I guess that’s a win? It’s weird, but I am so much more self confident now than I ever was in my twenties. I feel hot! And my body is not nearly in the same kind of shape it was when I was 25. Does wisdom come with age? I dunno!
Anyway, one thing I’ve really embraced as I’ve gotten older..
Are mom jeans. Bring ‘em up high, ladies and if you wanna throw in a smidge of stretch, I’ll love you forever. Bonus points for no muffin top or shimmy to get low riders back up where they belong. I’m not throwing out any lower rise pieces, but I definitely gravitate towards the higher rise pieces in my closet.
When: June 28, 2015
What:
Hat: Handmade by Me!
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’ in Black
Tee: GAP (ten years old, similar everywhere)
Jeans: J.Brand (very similar)
Sandals: Rockport (gift)
See Also: Another way I’ve worn this hat and these jeans recently.
This is what I wore on Sunday morning. Adam was driving back to town, so I took Felix out for a waffle (errr… I had a waffle and Felix watched me eat it) and then once Adam was back we went to lunch as a family. Afterwards, we hit up a vintage sidewalk sale and snapped these pics on our way back to the car.
Last photo, Felix was like… gimme dat boobie.
