What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: Quick post for me today guys! Felix just had his one year check up and shots so I’m staying home to cuddle and play. This is what I wore yesterday for a morning at the coffee shop (slash my office away from home). It’s hot in the afternoon, but when I leave it’s in the mid sixties so jeans feel ok. I also really like this blouse and the texture of the fabric. Feels like silk but it’s not, so I don’t worry about grimy baby hands. Win win!

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes to Felix over the past few days! I may have never met most of you, but I certainly feel your friendship and that means a lot to me.

What I Wore on Instagram

For Felix’s first birthday, I wanted to be festive but not go overboard - this party really is more for the parents than the baby! For a theme I went with ‘That’s Not My Monkey’ (his favorite book). I made little monkey face cupcakes, put out his stuffed animals, got some crepe paper and party hats and called it a day. Well, I also made a gray and white felt birthday banner that we can use year after year. With a clean house, fresh flowers and a table full of food it looked great!

Some of you might have seen my failed cake I tried to make on Friday afternoon. I didn’t like the way the frosting looked and tried to salvage it by scraping it off to re-ice later. Unfortunately it just crumbled in my hands. Thank goodness I had all of Saturday to try again!  The little monkey faces are made from mashmellow fondant I made earlier in the week and the icing is just cream cheese, butter and sugar! I had two circular cookie cutters and used the end of a dog bone shape to make the eye area, then piped on blackish icing for the eyes, nose and mouth.  I used to love icing and decorating cakes when I was a kid so I had a lot of fun making these! They tasted amazing too (we just used a box mix for the actual cake!!)

WhatIWore: Happy Birthday dear Felix! You’re one!! Yesterday we celebrated with our friends and family at our house and it was a wonderful party! (Photos and details to come!) Outfit wise, I went with a combo I’ve already worn and loved (first here). And if you think I’m the kind of mom that wears something to match the decorations so the pictures will be even more coordinated…you’re right. On Felix, we did a simple onesie with an iron on monkey patch to go with his theme. Believe it or not, he wore that hat the entire party and looked so. freaking. cute. toddling around the house in it. He is the light of our lives. We love you Felix boy!

WhatIWore: Top of the morning to you! I’m sitting outside my favorite little spot and it’s hopping with students and it’s a beautiful 65 degrees out and damn, life is good. I’m feeling happy and a little coffee buzzed and if I’m being truthful, a little sugar high too. Perfect combination!!

I haven’t worn this blouse is years because it’s been hiding in storage in the basement. I made it seven or eight years ago and I love this giant ruffles slash sleeves. I think it works really well with the drama of the jeans. Still loving the high rise and the flares.
