What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: On Sunday I felt well enough to get up and out of the house and my family had such a beautiful morning together picking apples! We drove north to Anderson Orchards, which I highly recommend if you’re in central Indiana (it’s just west of Mooresville).  See our pics from apple picking last year here.

The Quirk family likes to get out the door as early as possible, so from the time we wake up to getting in the car - it’s just about 20 minutes. (This is also kind of necessary if you want to eat breakfast out because the crowds start showing up around 9 or 9:30 and then you’re waiting foorrrreeeevvveeeerrrr for your pancakes!)  Adam usually gets Felix ready to go while I throw on my clothes and off we go! I’ve been waiting for the right chilly morning to break out my new brown boots (so comfortable!) and I just finished this hat! I’ve been dragging my feet on hat making, primarily because my supplies and workstation are upstairs and it’s just easier to knit or do handwork in the living/playroom with Felix downstairs.  Adam insisted on some daddy-son time Saturday morning (and by insisted I mean, he knew mommy wanted to have some time to get creative on her own) so that’s when I finished this beauty. I really love it!

When: September 20, 2015

What:
Hat: Stars and Field
Shades: Karen Walker in Crazy Tort
Sweater: LL Bean Signature
Belt: Thrifted
Bag: Frye
Jeans: J.Crew
Boots: Ugg Australia

Where: Breakfast at the Village Deli and Apple Picking at Anderson Orchards

This round crown, floppy brim hat is made of rabbit hair velour and woven leather banding. Inside it has a petersham band that was handsewn in. I normally put wiring into the brims, but this design worked nicely left alone. I hope to list this style in my etsy store soon as a custom order if you’re interested!

Love & Marriage

image

Last weekend, Adam and I celebrated five years of marriage. We decided to renew our vows, sitting hand in hand on the front porch of our Nashville rental house. Me in jean shorts and a tee shirt, tears streaming off my face and Adam starting on one knee, asking me if I’d marry him all over again.

But let’s rewind a little. Marriage is not all romance and flowers and date nights. Much like being a parent, marriage is damn hard work. Everyday you wake up and decide if you still want to be with the person sleeping next to you. Some days he shows his flaws - some days you show yours. Most days actually. You’ll go through your greatest joys (baby’s first giggle or first steps) and your lowest lows (the depths of depression, loss, and hurt).

You’ve decided to live your lives together and life is hard. Really. Hard. And hard is different to everyone. Some of us have money troubles or health problems or addicitions or not enough hours in the day. There are hurt feelings, silent treatments and bitterness. We do no service to others to pretend that we’re always happy. It’s the times we’re most upset that contrast so beautifully with the reallyˆreally good moments.

I have learned it’s possible to fall in love over and over again. Not because I’ve fallen out of love, but because Adam has taught me a new way to love, and it grows deeper each time.

Adam is the one person in the entire world that truly allows me to be myself. The impressions and silly voices, the jokes, the tears, the depression, the childlike joy, the everything. He sees me for who I am and encourages me to let more of the world see me that way. He celebrates my weirdness. I celebrate his.

My husband teaches me to breathe in the fresh air more deeply, to savour each bite of life a little more, to do because doing is fun, not because anything needs to be achieved or documented or posted.

I love my husband and I love being married to him. I love the highs, the lows and the inbetween. I love being his wife and encouraging him do good, to be his best, have a better day. I cannot imagine life without him.

The first time, the last time, the next time and for all time - I love you Adam.

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: Here’s a look at what I wore last weekend to celebrate my anniversary with Adam for daytime (see my date night dress here!) I actually wore this both Saturday and Sunday because it was insanely hot and this suited my needs better for what we were up to! I love little dresses like this (from today’s post sponsor Old Navy) because they’re cute solo but transition really well under sweaters, with jackets or boots. I love the colors of this print and plan on wearing it again with a camel colored floopy hat and a pair of boots I snagged on sale!
