Camping Outfit, what to wear for a camping trip

WhatIWore: Over the weekend we had our annual family cabin camping trip at Lincoln State Park. I look forward to this as soon as the weather changes and fall is in the air. I love it. And I did something this time that was so liberating - I wore the same thing (minus fresh underthings and a tee shirt) every single day. This was it - a flannel shirt, jeans and Bean Boots that I never laced it.

For as much as I enjoy getting dressed up, I also really enjoy not getting dressed up. Do you ever feel that way?

And how about those baby snuggles? Those rosy cheeks! Those sweaty blonde curls! Every time I nurse my son or hold him through a nap I think to myself over and over again Stay in the moment! Cherish this! I’ll never regret the dozens (or hundreds?) or cuddles and laying around I’ve had with Felix. Just looking at these photos almost brings me to tears. How bittersweet to see my baby grow into a boy.

A Tale of Two Bras

Maidenform One Fab Fit Bra

WhatIWore: For a woman who seems to know a lot about fashion, I know surprisingly little about bras. I was a late bloomer who didn’t really need a bra until I started college (hello freshman 15!) Prior to my pregnancy, I wore a 34B or C and support wasn’t such an issue for such small ta tas.

Then I became pregnant and everything changed. I was warned my bra size would grow, but I had no idea how much! I’m sort of embarassed to admit that I’ve gone the past year completely lacking in support. It’s kind of like you don’t know how bad something is until it’s good! I just added a new bra - the One Fab Fit tee shirt bra from Maidenform (today’s post sponsor!) and I’ve finally found the right size. It makes a huge difference in how I look!

Maidenform One Fab Fit Bra

A couple of tips that have helped me:

  1. The apex (or fullest part) of your bust should fall between your shoulders and elbow.
  2. You want a cup size without overflow. Find that by measuring the fullest part of your bust and subtracting the measurement right beneath your bust. My measurements are actually 37-32, which would be a 32DD on paper, but after trying on a variety of sizes, the 36 was actually most comfortable. This is why you should try on a bunch of different sizes!
  3. The band of your bra should be horizontal around your entire rib cage. I’ve found on my less supportive bras when I shorten the straps to lift up my bust, the band also pulls up which means… get a more supportive cup!

So as I said before, I used to be a 34B and now I’m a 36DD. I’ve nursed my son for 14 months and I expect (hope!) to go down to a 34D when all is said and done. But you need to fit your bra for the here and now, so even if it’s only worn for a few months, I know the proper size will benefit me.

Here’s a side by side of the style of bra I had been wearing a lot of on the left and my new Maidenform One Fab Fit bra on the right.

I’ve always gone with soft bras because I actually like being a little smaller on top and don’t want padding to appear larger. That said, I’ve realized some soft shaping can really help comfortably lift up your whole rack. And that creates more space in your torso which means you look slimmer!

In these photos, I’m wearing Maidenform’s One Fab Fit bra available at Kohl’s. Big thanks to Maidenform for sponsoring this post and helping me find the right fit!  I was sent this bra and others and those that aren’t my size will be donated to local women in need.

I’m calling this Felix’s first Halloween. He was two months old last year and I made him a cute little racoon hat, but was in the hospital the week leading up to the big day and if I remember correctly, it snowed. Boo. This year, I planned ahead of time to make his first real costume - a baby aviator!

My mom came to visit a few weeks ago and we went to the fabric store thinking we’d make an all-in-one animal suit of some sort, but the patterns available just didn’t inspire me. When I saw this faux sherling I knew it would be easy to sew (no raw edges to finish) and it made me think bomber jacket! Pilot! Without a specific pattern to make that work, I just found a cute hoodie pattern and adjusted the length for this modified version. It only took an hour to sew up (my mom cut out for me!) I put an American flag patch on the arm and a Best Made Co patch I had laying around on the chest. (Fun fact: I collect patches!)  Later, I made this little bomber style cap in about twenty minutes! I’m so shocked he kept it on while running around our friends’ backyard.

The best part about this costume is that I can put him in the jacket day in, day out so I don’t feel bad about spending a little more than I normally put into Halloween costumes (my mom always set a firm $10 budget when we were kids!)

Karen Walker 'Super Duper' in Crazy Tort

WhatIWore: Happy Monday, y’all! After a long weekend in the woods (without a cell signal or laptop in sight!) I’m happy to be back to blogging. I have loads of photos to edit, so I’m starting the week off with an outfit I wore last night to our friends’ annual pumpkin carving party. We managed to get all of the kiddos into costumes for some part of the night and I’ll show you Felix’s Halloween costume sometime this week!

As for my outfit, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this sweater in the mail. I love how it pairs nicely with a striped turtleneck (I took the poncho/sweater off while I actually scooped and carved my pumpkin). Paired with skinny jeans and boots, it’s the perfect autumn outfit!
