Brown and Stripes, How to wear stripes for fall

WhatIWore: So I’ve got a little brown suede mini skirt that I found at Goodwill and I’ve been hesitant to wear it without tights. Now that it’s cooler out, I’ve turned to Pinterest to gather some ideas on how to style it. Although none of these are exactly what I have in mind (or in my closet), it’s definitely helped to get my wheels spinning.

I think as the average gal reading blogs and checking stuff out online, it’s important to remember that all of this inspiration can either be daunting (I’ll never compare!) or just a great place to get ideas and a launch pad. Some bloggers wear outfits that probably cost thousands of dollars, but could I replicate something similar? Sure! It’s all about the inspiration!

We’re so lucky to live in a time of so much information and to have so many resources for our creativity. And honestly, to dress as we damn well please! A hundred years ago women didn’t have nearly the freedom of expression through clothes like we do. Women didn’t wear pants! Or vote!

Anyway…. I’ll jump off my tiny soapbox to say… these photos have me thinking about some mod mini skirt and stripe combos that I might try out later this week. What’s on your radar these days?

The temp went up quickly and I really didn’t need my jacket past my morning commute (which is all of 3 minutes to a nearby coffee shop). I was browsing Pinterst to get ideas on what to wear and saw a lot of cute camel and ivory combos, which sparked this idea (see another way I’ve worn it here). I don’t want to be a grump and complain about it being in the 70s in November, but I have a lot more sweaters and hats I’d like to bundle up with! Call me crazy, but I also wouldn’t mind a snow day soon (gasp! shock!)

My DIY | Felix the Fox

Fox Hat, Baby Fox Hat, Fox Knitting

Fox Hat, Baby Fox Hat, Fox Knitting

WhatIWore: Here’s another project I’ve recently knit up - a fox hat for Felix! Foxes are definitely my favorite animal… I dream of one day seeing one and making eye contact in the wild. Yes, I’m a weirdo. Whatever. One year I dressed up as a fox for Halloween and I also did a DIY smoking slipper with a fox applique. What does the fox say? Ooooowwwwwwwwweeeewwwww!

I found the pattern as a digital download on etsy and it really tested my patience for learning new skills. I ripped this one out a lot - at least three times for the intarsia and another three times for the ears. I’m giving myself an E for effort!

I used a DK weight yarn and both size 4 and 6 16″ round needles, plus size 6 double points as outlined by the pattern. I googled the hell out of how to do an intarsia too. I’m so determined to improve my knitting skills that I’m willing to try try again until I’ve learned the techique. It’s not perfect, but I’m happy with the result.

I finished the hat by using two different buttons - a smaller size for the eyes and a random larger black button for the nose.

Usually Felix will wear a hat for me, but he kept pulling this one off, making me think it’s too itchy for his sensitive skin. Bummer! Or maybe he’s just older and more grabby?

Also - Any Bloomington knitters out there? I’m hosting a little knitting circle on Monday night (November 9) at 6pm at Cardinal Spirits! Would love to see what you’re working on. Just bring yourself and your ID (21+)

WhatIWore: I used to really love day light savings time. I actually prefer getting up to the sun and I don’t mind it getting dark earlier. We’re on the far edge of the eastern time zone so the sun doesn’t set until around dinner time. My child on the other hand? He doesn’t know what to make of it. The witching hour falls right when I’m trying to make dinner (instead of after it) and on top that, our routine of three daily naps has morphed into one (maybe two, if I’m reaaaaaallly lucky). We’re also slowly trying to get the kiddo into his own room (sad face for mommy and baby) and in short: I’m exhausted.

That said, on mornings when I have help with Felix, I try to put a little extra effort into getting dressed. Truth be told, I changed 10 times and felt like nothing looked good, so I went with my fall back vintage black dress and army jacket. It always works!
