WhatIWore: Hellloooooooo!! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Over the past few weeks someone in my house has been throwing up, stuffed up or running a fever (myself included!) We are finally getting back to normal, which means we can get out of the house. Phew!

Luckily by the end of last week, we were up and at ‘em, so I thought why not celebrate summer Friday with a mommy-son adventure?!? We’ve got a bucket list of fun things we want to experience this summer, and I’ve realized with a toddler, we’re on a one-at-a-time activity pace. So for us, that meant starting the day with donuts! (It was National Donut Day, after all!)

Outfit wise, I went with summer staples like a straw hat, gauzy white top, cut off jean shorts and a comfortable pair of sandals (these are from Rockport, today’s post sponsor!) This summer I’ve been so much more relaxed - just throwing on what’s comfortable for the day versus wearing something that looks good for the blog. It’s been really liberating!

Like all of the Rockport shoes in my collection, these slide on sandals are incredibly comfortable - perfect for both chasing around my son at the playground or for long walks pushing a stroller.

Felix was so funny while we took these photos. We asked him if he wanted his picture taken, and I planned on holding him, which he firmly refused. Instead, we asked him to pose by mommy, which is when he did the squat thing you see above. And he’s been doing it for every photo sessions we’ve had since! That little squat and “cheeeeeese.” We love seeing his personality come out more and more each day.

Then - to the donut shop! It was packed, so we made our choices quickly. Felix asked for blue tic tacs (sprinkles) and I got my classic long john. With a carton of milk in tow, we popped the trunk and ate our snacks in the shade of the parking lot. Afterwards, we picked out a few new playground toys at the store and made our way to the park. We played hard for a while and then… tuckered out!

Heads up! This post has been sponsored by my long time partners at Rockport, a brand that offers both comfort and style. Thanks for supporting the brands that make What I Wore possible!

WhatIWore: Greetings! I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve sat down to edit and write about an outfit post - both of the photo sets this week were taken over the weekend. We’ve been slammed with some intense allergies - the worst of my life (and I’m normally not an allergy sufferer!!!) We initially thought we had really bad colds, but the word about town is that the pollen counts are so high a lot of people think they have strep throat when it’s just whatever’s in the air. So needless to say, we’ve been staying in, on the couch, co-sleeping again and trying to get back on our feet. It’s been one of those weeks!

WhatIWore: You know how you have some pieces in your closet that you just love;to wear? This dress always makes me feel so good when I put it on. It’s got some happy memories tied to it too. I wore it at 35 weeks pregnant, then for one of my first outings after Felix was born. It’s a non maternity style from Free People and they seem to keep adding more color combos seasonly (I also have it in blue). Last year I rocked it in a little more of a whimsical way but this Saturday, I layered it up. It ended up being really chilly outside and I later changed into jeans, a sweater, jacket and boots!

When: May 14, 2016

What:
Hat: Stars + Field (my lil hat company)
Jacket: Old Navy (older style)
Dress: Free People
Necklace: Self Made
Sandals: gift courtesy of Clark’s from last summer

Where: Out to breakfast with Adam

I really like all of the elements of this outfit - from my self made hat, down to my trusty sandals and olive green jacket. I especially like the little bee necklace I made (and by made, I mean put a charm I found on the chain of another necklace). I picked it up a day or two after I wrote that Bee Inspiration post, which felt like a nice coincidence!;

Our Home | Felix’s Nursery Update

Toddler Boy's Room, Updating bedroom for toddler, rainbow nursery, blue and yellow nursery

It’s hard to believe that two years ago I was putting the finishing touches on Baby Quirk’s nursery! You might remember we waited to find out if we would have a little girl or little boy for the birthday, so I initially chose to decorate the room in neutral gray and whites with pops of rainbow colors.

Felix will turn two this summer and has his own favorite things - colors, animals, books and toys. Keeping that in mind, I decided to update some of the decorative elements in his space to reflect his personality. The major stuff - like the furniture, window treatments and paint all remain the same.

Here’s what we’ve updated!!

My new favorite wall is over his changing table. We had a little scare not long ago when Felix was being bouncy and a picture frame shattered. Everyone was fine but I decided no more glass! Instead I taped up a few prints, spray painted his FQ initials and made some animal banners using felt. Pandas, owls and bees seem to be his favorites!  He also likes saying “heart! heart! home!” and pointing to the map of Indiana. On my actual changing table I either use two pillow cases or a crib sheet that’s wrapped around it. Next to that we have a large wicker basket for all of Felix’s cloth diapers.

Also in this space - we made an improvement on our diaper situation, thanks to today’s post sponsors Munchkin, and the STEP Diaper Pail they sent us to review for this post. We cloth diaper Felix during the day, but use heavy absorbency overnight disposables at night. Because I didn’t initially plan on plastic diapers, I never registered for or bought a diaper pail and just used a small step/lid bin we already had instead. Welp - to put it gently- if you miss a day of taking out the trash, your trash can will remind you. Now that portion of the room is smelling fresh (it has a baking soda disc in the lid that really helps!), looks sleek and the perfect height for dropping in diapers (because yes, I’ve tried to toss a dirty into the trash while holding a wiggly baby, missed and regretted it!)

Over the crib I did a quick project and made pinwheels! I didn’t want to eliminate the cute rainbow pieces in his room (like his quilt or balloon) but wanted to push more towards blues and yellows. I think this is a nice way to mix them in. One morning I came into his room and he was just laying in his crib, chattering to himself and pointing at different ones.

I don’t know if I’ve ever posted a photo of this portion of the room - opposite the window and bookshelf. I changed out the paper behind the mounted shelves with left overs from the pinwheels. Inside are little cards, photos and momentos that mama can’t bare to pack away! As you can see we keep one trash bin for dry/non-smelly things up high (a DIY from years ago!). His lamp is an old vintage number I found stashed away in the basement with a new shade. Adam gave me the chevron rainbow switch plate cover years ago, which he found on etsy.

I couldn’t get a good shot of the new window bunting (it’s hard to get good photos of a window!), but I’ll post a mediocre one anyways! I cut out a LOT of felt circles and just ran them through my sewing machine to create a long string of them. Super easy and quick!

Many thanks to today’s post sponsors, Munchkin and the STEP Diaper Pail for thinking of our family for this project, inspiring me to finally update our son’s room and for the STEP diaper pail! Thank you for supporting the brands that make What I Wore possible!
